Feng Shui Your Office: De- Clutter and Open the Flow
Keeping your office space clutter free is essential to organising your business, try to begin this way, but if you're like me and tend to get into a bit of a clutter it is time to work your way through it and clear it away. De- cluttering is the first step in Feng Shui practice before you do anything else and it creates a space in which you are able to move and redecorate with ease. It also helps to create flow, flow means an increase in all aspect of business. Properity, time, helpful people & creativity.
What is clutter? Clutter is anything unused, unfinished, unresolved, tolerated or disorganised. It is anything in our surroundings that have no home of their own. Ask yourself these questions when de-cluttering: Do I or will I need it? Do I love it? Is it useful? If not throw it away. Clutter makes you feel disorganised and the great thing about clearing it out is it costs you nothing other than a little time. Clutter is 'trapped energy' that has a far reaching effect physically, mentally, emotionally and financially. It also creates procrastination, confusion, disorganisation and can leave you feeling lethargic and tired and who needs that when your busy being successful?
Mail is one of the big offenders when it comes to office clutter, get into the habit of dealing with your mail on a daily basis. Toss out as much as you can, shred what needs to be shredded and deal with and file everything else. Once every six months go through your filing cabinet and clear away anything that is now out of date. Emails can also be a huge drainage of energy & time & should be dealt with & deleted if not needed. Create new files for overloaded files and archive things that still need to be kept but do not need to be on hand.
Put up a bulletin board and take the time to keep all the items on it current, if their not take them down or toss them away. Make sure your calendar is up to date and is always displaying the correct month and day so that you can easily see what your activities and appointments are for the month in one easy glance, this keeps you 'moving toward prosperity.' Your diary is always important and you should consider the size as appropriate to your business. Diaries with white pages are always better than ones with cream pages. White represents clarity.
Desk surfaces need to be open and free of unnecessary items so that you have plenty of room to work without distractions. Place a leafy green plant in a red pot in the top left hand corner of your desk and keep it well-tended and healthy. Bamboo, jade or a money tree are some of the best choices. Never use spiky plants as these are like poison arrows.
Go for non-glare lighting, decrease the use of flourescent lights by turning them off and adding a task lamp to your desk. Be careful of using red & blue together. These colours should be separated as the water element can put out the fire element & cause a drainage of wealth.
